The Calcutta Football Club formed in 1872, to play rugby and football, and subsequently, hockey, had the distinction of being founder members of the Bengal Hockey Association, and the Indian Rugby Football Union.   Shortly after the club was founded, the members donated to the Rugby Football Union, the handsome Calcutta Cup, for the annual England versus Scotland rugby match, that, over a 100 years later is still being played. Rugby in India has seen resurgence in the last few years, and the club has been proud to provide players who have represented the country in SE Asia. In the early 1900s, the club's football team won both the League and the IFA Shield. The hockey side this season brought added honour by annexing the First Division title.
